Alex Joves
Regional Director for Region 5
Alex Joves is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Regional Director for Region 5, where he leads the effort to understand, manage, and reduce risk to cyber and physical infrastructure in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Selected as the first CISA Region 5 Director in 2020, Mr. Joves oversees regional efforts to provide risk assessments, cross-sector analysis, information sharing, and capacity building. This includes mitigating the most significant cyber risks to the country’s National Critical Functions; assisting statewide emergency communications planning; engaging state and local officials on election security; enhancing safety and security at schools and faith-based organizations; supporting incident response and recovery; and coordinating critical infrastructure efforts for special events such as the Indianapolis 500, Chicago Marathon, Democratic National Convention, and Republican National Convention. He currently serves on the Chicago Federal Executive Board Executive Committee and FBI Chicago Field Office Joint Terrorism Task Force Executive Board.
A career member of the Senior Executive Service, Mr. Joves brings 28 years of government service to the position, working in the Federal Civil Service and U.S. Coast Guard, including tours in the White House Situation Room, White House Military Office, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary’s Office, and seagoing, law enforcement, search & rescue assignments in both the Atlantic and Pacific areas. He held leadership positions across DHS with the Principal Federal Official Program, Special Events Working Group, Office of Operations Coordination, Counterterrorism Advisory Board, National Terrorism Advisory System, National Infrastructure Coordinating Center, Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, and the Office of Infrastructure Protection. Prior to his federal service, he was an attorney in private sector practice. Mr. Joves is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, The George Washington University Law School, and Chief Information Security Officer-Executive Education and Certificate Program at Carnegie Mellon University.
