USACE Sea Level Change Curve Calculator
Description
Developer/Partners: USACE (2022)
Relevant Hazard/Threat(s): Sea-level Rise
Intent: Support coastal managers, planners, and scientists in calculating the sea-level change scenarios, compare USACE scenarios with those developed by other entities, and explore screening-level potential impacts.
Developed to meet the need for considering Local Mean Sea Level changes into USACE Civil Works and planning coastal projects. Applies methodology from USACE Engineering Regulation 1100-2-8162 to calculate low, intermediate, and high SLR scenarios for consideration in coastal projects. Range of exceedance probabilities included.
Data Parameters
Inputs: Long-term tide gauge (more than 40 years of data), preferred scenario source, project start date, project life span, critical elevation thresholds, MORE?
Outputs: Low, intermediate, and high SLR scenarios
Caveats
Uses data from NOAA tide gauges, which can be significantly different than conditions at a project site. Intended for screening applications not detailed engineering designs. Does not include dynamic sea level and regional ice-let effects but does allow for consideration of regional effects.
