Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a local attacker to execute arbitrary code once a user opens a malicious DCM file on affected FFT Imaging installations.

3.2 Vulnerability Overview

3.2.1 OUT-OF-BOUNDS WRITE CWE-787

On Santesoft Sante FFT Imaging versions 1.4.1 and prior once a user opens a malicious DCM file on affected FFT Imaging installations, a local attacker could perform an out-of-bounds write, which could allow for arbitrary code execution.

CVE-2024-1696 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

4. MITIGATIONS

Santesoft released an updated version of their product and recommends users update Sante FFT Imaging to v1.4.2 or later.
