The SAFECOM Education and Outreach Committee, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is pleased to announce the release of the 2018 Public Safety Communications Evolution Brochure. The updated Evolution Brochure analyzes the current public safety communications landscape, describes the evolution of public safety communications, and features considerations for how both land mobile radio (LMR) systems and Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology can operate concurrently during emergency response operations.

The Evolution Brochure also includes a new Public Safety Communications Evolution Graphic and a Public Safety Communications Evolution Timeline to demonstrate the past, present, and anticipated future of public safety communications. Together, these materials were designed to aid in the understanding of the evolving communications ecosystem and the impact on operable and interoperable emergency communications for the public safety community.

SAFECOM is a mission-guided and stakeholder-supported public safety communications program. Through collaboration with emergency responders and policymakers across all levels of government, SAFECOM works to improve multi-jurisdictional and intergovernmental communications interoperability. SAFECOM develops guidance materials and best practices designed to educate the public safety community as well as elected and appointed officials about the technologies and services to enhance and support the current and future public safety communications capabilities.
