This resource explains malicious use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and basic mitigations to counter the enhanced risks to election infrastructure. It provides an overview for understanding generative AI and highlights considerations unique to the election infrastructure subsector. The guide is intended to help election officials think through how their systems may be impacted by generative AI, how these capabilities may be used by malicious actors to target elections, and encourage them to incorporate mitigation measures for generative AI-enhanced threats into cybersecurity best practices.
