Siemens reports this vulnerability affects the following versions of the SINUMERIK MC CNC system control system for customized machines.
- SINUMERIK MC: All versions prior to v1.15 SP1
- SINUMERIK ONE: All versions prior to v6.15 SP1

3.2.1 IMPROPER PRIVILEGE MANAGEMENT CWE-269
The sc SUID binary on affected devices provides several commands used to execute system commands or modify system files. A specific set of operations using sc could allow local attackers to escalate their privileges to root.
CVE-2022-24408 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 7.8 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

4. MITIGATIONS
Siemens has released updates for the affected products and recommends updating to the latest versions.
- SINUMERIK MC: Update to v1.15 SP1 or later versions
- SINUMERIK ONE: Update to v6.15 SP1 or later versions
SINUMERIK software can be obtained from a Siemens account manager.
